Inman Park

Inman Park as we know it is the ultimate intown neighborhood--a couple of MARTA stops from downtown commerce, and hip shops and restaurants within a short walk. It is difficult to imagine Inman Park as Atlanta's first suburb, to think of the neighborhood as "OTP." Walking around Springvale Park brought to mind the imagery initially associated with American borderlands. The designers of Inman Park, like their contemporary suburban planners, were clearly trying to achieve the "combination of the picturesque and the accessible." The vistas across rolling, grassy parkland, the deep glades, shadowed by trees and traced with footpaths recall the "half-rural, half-wild scenery" praised by the first borderlanders. 

One of the park gates is now marred by graffiti, an interesting comment on the original residents' desire for both accessibility and remoteness.
